My Three conventions

Casting, Directing and Credits

Casting- Here we had to choose male and female actors who could portray the characters that we created. As we were targeting a male dominant society it would seem that having the male actor played by Levi Bent act violent, terrifying and creepy, I believe we have successfully achieved our ambitions do to the footage shown and how professional it looks compared to other real media. Furthermore the female actress used is played by Megan Boyle and we had envisioned her to be represented as the male gaze. This is due to the male dominated society and having her viewed through the male’s perspective allows the audience to experience it in that way.

Credits- The credits consist of the members of our group and the specific roles that they played part into the final poster and trailer. To help create this we used Photoshop to help us create the credits and Dafont which enabled us to use the specific font used on real media posters/trailers.  Although some of the information regarding the names was false we adapted those media products such as the Friday the 13th poster/ trailer, The Shining poster and Nightmare on Elm Street poster into our own product to allow it become more accurate with other real media text.

Directing- This is a major role that has to be taken seriously in order to have a successful result. At the start of our production we had established who our director was and how we divided up the work between us was supervised by him. While shooting on set our director was there to organise each scene and direct the camera man to each shot that was supposed to be taken.

Digital Technology

Digital technology is the way of how over the years it has become more developed than ever, allowing other users to create products from their own initiative. Softwares such as Photoshop, InDesign, Final cut pro and Logic Pro X all help allow the producer to experiment with different elements of a design.  For my AS coursework I was instructed to create a music magazine of my choice, however in A2 I created a horror genre film trailer which focused on the slasher sub-genre. Throughout the two years I have acknowledge the opportunity of being able to work with certain editing softwares that was accessible for me to utilize. I have also used these softwares to help me develop my work over the two years but more so in the second as my knowledge of them has increased.  Firstly I would like to start of with my Preliminary task that was to create a college music magazine. As this was completed in my first year my knowledge of the editing softwares was at amateur level, this meant ...

Essay on Representation theorists

Representation essay The trailer that I will be analysing is from ‘Splash slasher Productions’ and it is called ‘Never sleep again’, reason being is because they included multiple representation theorists that can be explored within their teaser trailer. Theorists such as Charles Derry, Carol Clover and Sarah Dobbs have all been located within the teaser trailer which helps follow the typical conventions of a horror trailer. Firstly I noticed throughout the trailer Carol Clover’s theory of the use of a final girl, due to the character being the last person to actually confront the source of evil itself. For example in the trailer the final was being dragged viciously across the ground by the antagonist which is evidence for the confrontation between the protagonist and antagonist. In other trailers such as ‘Cabin in the Woods’ the same character type is seen there as well which may imply that the female protagonist is adopting masculine features to overcome evil. Strengths of ...
