Digital Technology

Digital technology is the way of how over the years it has become more developed than ever, allowing other users to create products from their own initiative. Softwares such as Photoshop, InDesign, Final cut pro and Logic Pro X all help allow the producer to experiment with different elements of a design. For my AS coursework I was instructed to create a music magazine of my choice, however in A2 I created a horror genre film trailer which focused on the slasher sub-genre. Throughout the two years I have acknowledge the opportunity of being able to work with certain editing softwares that was accessible for me to utilize. I have also used these softwares to help me develop my work over the two years but more so in the second as my knowledge of them has increased.

Firstly I would like to start of with my Preliminary task that was to create a college music magazine. As this was completed in my first year my knowledge of the editing softwares was at amateur level, this meant that I couldn't express my true work as I was unable to identify key conventions which involves text, layout  and image. Fortunately digital technology did however enable me to create work on InDesign as I was able to crop my dominant image and add text such as my masthead, slogan and cover line. Furthermore the production stage of my preliminary would be classed as experimental and hectic as finding the right location, model and costume was daunting. Digital technology allowed me to go out on my own accord and take photos to use for my college magazine.  Finally skills that I used to help edit my photo included the crop tool and colour distortion which allowed me to bring my image to life.

Secondly in my second year the development of my AS magazine was significant as I had attained a deeper knowledge for my editing skills and typical conventions of a magazine. Through research skills I have expanded my knowledge of how conventions of magazines are portrayed towards the audience. With continous use of using digital technology to help me create a magazine I researched multiple real media texts of horror trailers to help me expand my knowledge of how they actually are

Other horror films begin with dark and gloomy lighting, plus the addition and sound creating the tension it would seem ideal. Individual analysis of 3 existing Horror Trailers in booklet (Lesson 1.1)

Individual analysis of 3 existing Horror Trailers in booklet I will be analyzing three different monster sub genres focusing on: Mis en scene, Camera, Editing and Sound.  Sub genre Monsters: Godzilla 1954 trailer https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VKrj1ymJzmo The sub genre of monsters is a classic trait as a horror film as it is easy to identify and audience are very attracted to it. Specifically speaking of the Godzilla trailer made in 1954 by Japanese creator Ishiro Honda. Firstly I noticed how sound played a pivotal role in emphasizing the effect of a 60ft monster, the pace of the sound was also admirable as the frantic, fluctuated music pace matched with the trailer enticing the audience into wanting why that was. In addition editing techniques such as jump cuts were evident in the trailer as they helped build tension to the trailer quickly building anticipation for the audience. Furthermore cross cutting was integrated into the trailer as the audience sa...

Essay on Narrative Theorists

Essay on Narrative Theorists Introduction The trailer that I will be analysing is from ‘Jumpscare Productions’ and it is called ‘The Collector’, reason being is because they included multiple narrative theorists that can be explored within their teaser trailer. Narrative is a story that is created in a constructive format that describes a sequence of fictional or non-fictional events.  Mostly Todorov and Levi-Strauss are seen exponentially in the trailer as they would mostly be classed as the foundations of a typical horror film teaser trailer. The fact that they allow the audience to only view the equilibrium and disequilibrium but disregard the resolution shows their knowledge on the narrative theorist Todorov. Paragraph 1:  Expanding on their use of the narrative theorist Todorov helped allow the trailer to develop a structured base which included the Equilibrium and Disequilibrium. Following this pattern allowed the audience to follow the trailer identifying...
