Digital Technology

Digital technology is the way of how over the years it has become more developed than ever, allowing other users to create products from their own initiative. Softwares such as Photoshop, InDesign, Final cut pro and Logic Pro X all help allow the producer to experiment with different elements of a design.  For my AS coursework I was instructed to create a music magazine of my choice, however in A2 I created a horror genre film trailer which focused on the slasher sub-genre. Throughout the two years I have acknowledge the opportunity of being able to work with certain editing softwares that was accessible for me to utilize. I have also used these softwares to help me develop my work over the two years but more so in the second as my knowledge of them has increased.  Firstly I would like to start of with my Preliminary task that was to create a college music magazine. As this was completed in my first year my knowledge of the editing softwares was at amateur level, this meant ...

Real media text essay

Real media text essay "Explain how significant were the Conventions of Real Media Texts in your development of creativity across your 2 years of production work." Real media texts all have conventions and rules which helps lead to their purpose. Typical conventions have the option of either being broken or followed due to the real media texts that are already exist it would seem that creativity has been limited as they set image for a real media text. With creating a real media text it is a necessity for the creator to involve semiotics as certain real media texts have a subtext allowing the audience to identify the denotation and connotation of the media text. In AS, my brief was to create a hip hop music magazine and to complete this successfully I had to identify typical conventions in a real media magazine relating it to the layout and structure, use of images and text, semiotics, what genre and the representation. First of all in AS we had to choose a music ...

Media essay question Q: Describe how your analysis of the conventions of real media texts informed your own creative media practice. Refer to a range of examples in your answer to show how these skills developed over time. Essay on Representation theorists

Representation essay The trailer that I will be analysing is from ‘Splash slasher Productions’ and it is called ‘Never sleep again’, reason being is because they included multiple representation theorists that can be explored within their teaser trailer. Theorists such as Charles Derry, Carol Clover and Sarah Dobbs have all been located within the teaser trailer which helps follow the typical conventions of a horror trailer. Firstly I noticed throughout the trailer Carol Clover’s theory of the use of a final girl, due to the character being the last person to actually confront the source of evil itself. For example in the trailer the final was being dragged viciously across the ground by the antagonist which is evidence for the confrontation between the protagonist and antagonist. In other trailers such as ‘Cabin in the Woods’ the same character type is seen there as well which may imply that the female protagonist is adopting masculine features to overcome evil. Strengths of ...

Essay on Narrative Theorists

Essay on Narrative Theorists Introduction The trailer that I will be analysing is from ‘Jumpscare Productions’ and it is called ‘The Collector’, reason being is because they included multiple narrative theorists that can be explored within their teaser trailer. Narrative is a story that is created in a constructive format that describes a sequence of fictional or non-fictional events.  Mostly Todorov and Levi-Strauss are seen exponentially in the trailer as they would mostly be classed as the foundations of a typical horror film teaser trailer. The fact that they allow the audience to only view the equilibrium and disequilibrium but disregard the resolution shows their knowledge on the narrative theorist Todorov. Paragraph 1:  Expanding on their use of the narrative theorist Todorov helped allow the trailer to develop a structured base which included the Equilibrium and Disequilibrium. Following this pattern allowed the audience to follow the trailer identifying...

Essay on Genre theorists

Essay on Genre theorists The trailer that I will be analysing is from ‘Splasher Splasher productions’. Their teaser trailer was very interesting as it included some horror conventions such as the corridor of doom which is ideal as it helps set the scene for their trailer. In addition the trailer includes one of the five genre theorists in it as well; Rick Altman seems to have played a vital role in the trailer as it seems this production gave off an emotional pleasure as it proves that the use of blackouts and eerie, intense music helps set a certain tone to the trailer as it may imply how the audience should be feeling at that very moment.  Furthermore the trailer also could be classed as an urban genre as urban genres are usually dark and broadcast the underside of a city. This trailer shown could also be shown in another view point as the use of the trailer could be made into a parody, the fact that its the same footage as many other horror trailers insights the audience ...

300 word analyse sub-genre of the film Cabin in The Woods

Week 2 task 3 Using your notes from class on sub-genre and Horror conventions,  write a 300 word summary  of HOW the film make interesting use of the conventions of Horror and Sub-genres you have studied. Cabin in The Woods utilizes different sub-genres throughout the film that highlight the categories in the horror genre. This Horror film begins with the odd sense of the film actually  not fitting the right requirements to see it as a horror film as lighting, sound, camera, editing and mis-en-scene all play an essential part of diverting from its true nature. Other horror films begin with dark and gloomy lighting, plus the addition and sound creating the tension it would seem ideal. Furthermore the 5 fictional characters help portray certain traits such as the dumb blonde, the smart one, the virgin girl, the athlete and the fool. In film as custom the slutty girl dies first with her sins put to sleep, with the other characters due to die except from the virgin girl ...
